2089) Letter To The Editor Of Wall Street Journal by Yuksel Oktay

Dear Editor,

In a recent article, Bruce Fein states that Brian Ardouny of the Armenian Assembly of America in a videotaped interview for a documentary on the Armenian Revolt clucked: "We don't need to prove the genocide historically, because it has already been accepted politically" also asking the Congress to reject that cynicism in defense of historical truth. . .

Most of the articles published in many newspapers and web sites since the passing of the Armenian resolution in the House Committee for Foreign Affairs on Oct 10, including the Wall Street Journal, begin with the statement that Armenian genocide is a fact, without having been proven historically as noted in the above comment. How did the distortion of the facts and fabricated stories on the Armenian issue begin? By no other than Ambassador Henry Morgenthau, stationed in Istanbul between 1915-1917, who relied on his Armenian translator and Armenian secretary, both emplyed at the US Embassy in Istanbul. So much for L.A. Eldemir's claim, descendant of Armenian who served in Istanbul with the U.S. Foreign service, condemning the mythical genocide.

The long resolution adopted by the Committee is full of distortions and fabrications which may be totally foreign to the members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and yet some did vote for it, including the chairman Tom Lantos for revenge, except those who had a sense of reason, voted against it. There was no genocide but death on both sides due to war conditions, not a pre-meditated plan to exterminate the Armenians. The relocation was certainly sad, mandated by the war conditions but those in the western part were not subject to relocations. Nancy Pelosi should come to her senses and not bring this ill-conceived and hateful resolution to the House of Representatives for the sake of all parties involved, especially the US.

Sincerely,

Yuksel Oktay
