387) Armenian conference in September -TDN

An Armenian conference canceled in May after being the target of harsh criticism will be held Sept. 23-25 with the same content and participants, Hürriyet reported.

A planned gathering at Istanbul's Bogaziçi University of Turkish historians and academics to discuss the official Turkish view of the 1915 deportation of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire was postponed.

Currently, a speaking ban has been imposed on officials from a committee in charge of organizing the event.

Hrant Dink, one of the participants, said the cancellation of the May conference tarnished Turkey's image.

Etyen Mahçupyan, another participant, said the conference would be very beneficial.
