446) True Side Of Armenian Trauma

Armenian activists who are in an attempt to go beyond racist and extremist fanaticism depend on a bad intended deception of “trauma” as a basing point.

For a “racist” and/or neo-marginal” Armenian this trauma means nothing, but a “genocide” allegation whose resistance focuses are strong and Armenian propaganda takes all its force and energy from the so-called mass-massacre scenarios in the past. . . .
At this point, it must be examined how “Armenian taboos”, which avoided being have discussed historical problems in an objective manner, refused historical judgments which were come to light by every element other than its own views and rejected every kind of archive documents, which could be placed in scientific platform without any ground, is transformed into a social trauma.

The subject of this kind of examination consists of a wide range of areas changing from how an Armenian, as an independent-thinking individual is raised at micro level to how it is transformed into a perception which can cause “a hysteria crisis” at macro level. In this respect, first of all, the trauma must clearly be defined.

Although trauma means a condition that requires an urgent medical operation like “being wounded, injured”, when it is adapted to social life, it includes “sociologic approaches” which requires to be focused “causes which led to be gone to conclusions”.

While terror, economic crisis and wars are important places in the hierarchy of social trauma, trauma is held as a concept which has different criterions since it produces consequences which affects masses in the long term.

First of all, social problems directly affect human psychology since individual is in that society. A psychologically injured person alienates himself from cause of his absolute existence and begins to perceive society’s problems as his problems. In this course, trauma mechanism proceeds.

At this point it is not focused on how this trauma is produced or whether there are real causes which require “to be proven” with true evidences. Here the criterion is that psychologically injured people chooses to perceive himself as weaker, victimized, suffered and the outside world as strong, cruel and an enemy. At this point, it is focused on this kind of negative world view.

This mental condition is followed by the condition in which individual looses all feelings of reality and he could not establish “self-identity” He is faced with problems in his relation with outside world and undertakes social roles which do not accord with his personality and do not identify with him.

Finally, the individual produces a phenomenon, that is, “psychology of mentally injured” which can spread over all aspects of life as a generalized problem and cause important problems and he adopts it as a social role and a new identity.

An individual who is grabbed by the current of this kind of psychological change attempts to construct a new society. He invents a “rehabilitation world” which shares and/or is ready to share the same characteristics. He carefully records individuals who can support events and comments in imaginary world produced by him at this “Rehabilitation World”. He rejects others and those who are outside his vital arguments. For him, killings, tragedies, injuries other than his own injury, that is, all other traumas loose importance and become meaningless.

In fact, at this point a “strategic grievance mechanism” which is produced and continuously promoted by false cases, -as it is in the Armenian problem- causes problems which drag political deadlocks with similar bases in the international crises too. If we consider the point, “we were murdered”, “we were killed in the exile”, “we were slaughtered and tortured” etc. the equation system which used in all these expressions is vigorously made to be functional and the scientific history, which is politicized and transformed to a political begging manufactory, has been turned around a kind of “trauma grievance” which is false and far away from it’s real context. In a biased manner the diplomatic sympathy toward the grieved part does not investigate the truth and is not interested in how and under which conditions they were suffered.

Put it differently, it is not emphasized that we came to this point with Armenians’ band movements that came into being in 1890’s and thousands of Turks were the part that is killed and slaughtered. It is very important to notice that Armenian revolts and insurgents which put everybody in the state of alarm and confusion. Nonetheless the murders and rapes against the people they live together had key a role.

In other words, Associate professor Erol Göka argues that “the basic frame of Armenians‘psychological situation depends on “the genocide” of Jews carried by Germans. In the light of the “genocide”, the forensic understanding, which after 2. World War, some sociologist called a human rights century, appeared and in this context a new ideological and psychological situation, which is giving high credit to the grievance and encouraging it, created.

Nonetheless, this idea is supported by the fact that the grievance which becomes accepted widely in Europe focuses on a traumatic structure. As result of melting Armenian identity especially in west countries The Armenian church, Hinchak and Tashnak Parties and the Armenian charity organizations are under danger of extermination. These organizations which are not be able to stop the integration of Armenians to the society which they live in. can not find any way other than promoting genocide allegations as a formula which regenerate Armenian identity. This, especially so called Armenian Diaspora who live in very secure societies with privileges do not perceive Armenia “as a country which they will return to”. so that is why “the genocide’s image” is being used as a mantel country to construct emotionally the common identity as well as to promote the Armenian identity.

In conclusion it is seen that an important part and pillar of Armenian identity is the image of grievance and the pile of imaginary stories which they created.

In spite of all strategic promises, Armenians couldn’t achieve the “group-nation and society’ goal. Therefore the existence of Armenian group identity finds a way “to praxis its existence” “by putting Turkey as object of otherness doctrine”. Therefore it drags its bordering neighbor into position of eternal enemy, obliging itself to look for legitimation in forensic, and political and economic fields.
