638) “A Clash Of Interests”, The Main Problem Of Armenians

The Armenian National Academy of Sciences recently organized a meeting titled “The Clash of Civilizations and Armenia”. Given the general framework of the meeting, the details of which we were able to acquire from Armenian media organs, we can clearly say that the issue constituting the main problem for Armenia is “The Clash of Interests”, not “The Clash of Civilizations”..

During the meeting held in Yerevan, Armenian academicians stated that Armenia “had no democratic structure”; “its domestic and foreign policies have been under the control of other countries since the day it declared its independence in 1991”; “it has been suffering from certain problems in social, political and economic fields;” but “it has never experienced any problem in regard with the clash of civilizations”.

As it is the case in Turkey today, Armenians have indeed been able to integrate with the social, political and cultural circles of the countries they have lived in; and Turkey, a Muslim country, has safeguarded the Christian Armenian minority that has been living on her territories. In this case, “the Clash of Civilizations” cannot be the main problem of Armenians.

Hovannes Yityan, who served from 1995 to 1999 as the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission in the Armenian Parliament, made a similar statement in a conference titled “Armenian-Turkish Relations”, held by the Yerevan State University.

“Turkey, as a Muslim country, has safeguarded the Christian Armenian minority living in her territories, while Russia has applied a policy of “pressure” and “repression” against the Armenians in the country,” underlined Yityan, during the mentioned meeting attended by several renowned Armenian Historians and researcher writers, stating that 50 thousand Armenians living in Turkey in our time have never been exposed to a bad treatment, while the Armenians living in Russia and Georgia, assumed to be friendly countries, have been struggling for a living under difficult conditions.

However, at a point when Armenians constitute the primary group that can be manipulated by countries “the interests of which are conflicting” in the Caucasus for their own regional objectives, the main problem for Armenia is to become an instrument for this struggle. In other words, the main issue is that Armenians have been victimized for the interests of civilizations struggling for power over the region.

The seeds of discord laid by certain circles that has been playing over the region so as to gain domination for years, still bring about the distortion of historical facts and the failure to see contemporary truths. Just like what happens in the story of “so-called” genocide that takes place between the Turks and Armenians…

If Armenians, positioned in the target of provoking activities with a theme of “genocide”, fail to get rid of the spite and hatred injected by familiar “civilizations” into their brains, they will remain to be the victims of “The Clash of Interests”…
