Propaganda was a tool used in order to weaken and collapse the enemy since the concept of war began to appear in the history of humans. Within the activity of collapsing the enemy state, propaganda is generally directed to the communities that are thought to be left out of reach of the dominating powers of a state. However, propaganda which was directed as an activity to collapse the rival state during the war, was used in a much different way during the cold war period that took place in the second half of the 20th century.. .

Propaganda and missionary movements directed towards Ottoman Armenians were started in the 17th century by Catholic missioners supported by French Government in order to spread Catholic sect among Armenians, and these movements were carried on by the British and American Protestant missioners throughout the 19th century. The propaganda directed towards Armenians and using Armenians as its subject matter, was made mostly by Russian and British governments. .
