National Assembly for Wales

Dear Helen Thomas and Heulwen Blackmore,

I am writing to you as a member of the British Turkish community concerning a potentially racist issue against British Turks in Cardiff.

Our colleagues have already forwarded to you relevant dossiers and a letter written to Welsh Centre for International Affairs (Temple of Peace and Health) on background facts and figures concerning the proposed Armenian Monument to be erected outside the Temple of Peace on the 3rd of November, 2007.

The aim of the British Turkish community is to alert you to a potential racist act and offer an explanation as to why such an act would be racist, to counteract those one sided stories being banded about the so called Armenian Genocide in Wales and the need to remove inherent bias against our community. In view of the potential damage that can be caused, we seek your help in stopping such lop-sided activity and offer tangible equality to minority communities.

Indeed, our colleagues are anticipating visiting Cardiff next week and wish to visit you as a British Turkish delegation.
This is our request for support for such a meeting and a meaningful dialogue to avert bias.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Kind regards

Cardiff/Wales

Dear Mr. Thomas,
I am a member of the British Turkish community and refer to a representation made by our colleagues regarding proposed erection of 'Alleged Armenian Genocide Memorial' on the 3rd of November, 2007, at Temple of Peace grounds in Cardiff.

I understand that dossiers containing facts and figures have been despatched to you already, for your perusal and information. I am seeking your cooperation in bringing forth the truth about the so called Armenian Genocide. I feel that to be very important for the sake of racial harmony and diversity in Wales.

The crux of the matter is your apparent lack of concern by erecting a memorial for the Armenian dead, but not for the 524,000 Turkish dead. This is seen as a biased view of the history; thus favouring one ethnic group over the other! Over half a million innocent people who were murdered in cold blood by the armed Armenian gangs and irregulars CAN NOT BE FORGOTTEN OR DISMISSED. Whilst we can all agree that the events of circa 1915 was a tragedy for the 5 million Ottomans of different ethnic backgrounds, it is surely a racist attitude to remember the Armenian dead only!.

It is therefore demanded that if an Armenian monument is to be erected at WCIA then a Turkish monument must be erected too, in the same place, at the same time. Alternatively, you should hold back on the Armenian monument until a case for the Turkish monument is prepared and delivered. Our community is determined that no racist attitudes should be allowed to develop against the Turks in Cardiff; so we seek your cooperation for fairness.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

rhodri.morgan@wales.gsi.gov.uk gavinm@wales.gsi.gov.uk

Kind attention Mr Rhodri Morgan
