Dear Mr Aya,
Thank you for your email.
The ABC has reviewed the Foreign Correspondent report Ghosts of the Past, and cannot agree that it engages in slandering propaganda against Turkey. The ABC believes the report is in keeping with its Code of Practice. http://abc.net.au/corp/pubs/edpols.htm

The ABC acknowledges that the killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks during World War I remains a matter of contention. To this day, different people and groups hold very strong opposing views in relation to these events, views which are incompatible with each other.

Having assessed your complaint against the report, the ABC is . . satisfied it does not contain any editorial statements or commentary by the ABC. The report contains a range of principal relevant perspectives.

The ABC believes the following are statements of fact, they are not the views of the ABC:

"While in some countries such as France, it is a criminal offence to deny the Armenian genocide, successive Turkish governments refuse to acknowledge it."

"Democrat presidential contenders, Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama are committed to recognising the Armenian genocide if elected President."

Please be assured that your comments have been duly noted.

Yours sincerely

Gentlemen;
I am shocked at your becoming a center of continuous slandering propaganda against Turkey, and permitting yourselves to be used for broadcasting lies and distortions for a handful of Armenian propagandists who work hard to temper the Turkish-Australian friendship, despite a . . painful history!

My responses are given in bold and blue against the commentary in the program transcript.

Re: Your reply letter of May 4, 2009 Istanbul, May 4, 2009

Dear Sir,

I much appreciate the time and attention you have devoted to answering my letter and kindly request you, for the sake of “truth and ethical values” to devote a few more minutes, in evaluating my counter comments and the attached – irrefutable documentary evidences, with my introductory notes as follows:

1- As you will see from attached (May 4th) explanation of my friend a student of history at the Sorbonne University, the penalization proposition has not been voted by the Senate and the present government supports the refuse. Moreover as a thumb rule “parliaments, governments, political reputations have no authority to make judicial decisions and use their political positions, to write or distort history”.

2- For the very same reasons, what Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton speaks, based on the drafts handed to them by their advisors has no judicial or historical value at all. Nevertheless, I will much appreciate to receive an official answer or refutation of the following attachments, which I trust that it is the duty of the U.S.A. executives to answer logically, before they accuse any other party except themselves.

a- Letter from France (which even if it were to be legal, has no value because it is not an International Court!

b- Old newspaper headlines. (The Genocide of Truth)

c- Cover and page memorandum given to Paris Peace Conference on Feb. 16, 1919 in which they praise their rebellions, direct assistance the enemies of the state! Are there any objections to these clear confessions?

d- Cover and page 10 of the Memorandum given to the U.S. Congress on Nov.10th ,1919, by Mr Lodge.……. confirming the Armenian involvement in the war on the side of the allies, boasting their treason.

e- Front page of General Harbord’s report April 13, 1920 to the US Congress and the Annex prepared by Capt. Niles and Sutherlands on “Atrocities”. I request in particular, a translation of the words “refinements of cruelty” !

g - Cover sheet of the Joint U.S. Congress-Resolution “Near East Relief” dated April 22, 1922, in which the points mentioned in the FLIER SHEET are resolved! I am asking an explanation from all U.S. Authorities concerned as regards “why there are no complaints of Turkish Atrocities in this report, but almost praise, and it confirms that 1.414.000 Armenians are alive. If this is true (as resolved by highest authority) how is it possible to kill 1.5 million people out of the existing maximum figure of 1.3 millions in 1914, and have a residual balance of 1.414.000 ? Please ask the White House and Congress members to answer this simple question. Do the present Congress Members and White House know the incidents any better than those who lived and resolved all these?

I will much appreciate your explanatory reply, after you have taken the attachments in consideration or produced other documentation to annul attachments. My English book can be downloaded directly from the internet at given link and furthermore I will be most obliged to mail a signed copy to those requesting it for their library or refuting any of almost 2000 excerpt references I have given in my book.

Yours most sincerely and thankfully,

Sukru,
This is rather good. Please also include the link here

“While in some countries such as France, it is a criminal offence to deny the Armenian genocide, successive Turkish governments refuse to acknowledge it.”

The penalization proposition, made by the deputy Masse in 2006, was not voted by the French Senate, despite the efforts of the Coordination Committee of French-Armenian associations (CCAF). Hurriyet (in English).

The current government supports this refuse: LeFigaro.fr (in French).

These propositions will be never a law, said Pierre Lellouche, a member of the current majority: TodaysZaman (in English).

During a public discussion with a leader of the CCAF, in December 2008, Rama Yade, French secretary to Human Rights, said: “It is important that the historians work at first about this subject”. As pointed correctly the CCAF, with ire, this kind of response is in contradiction with the “recognition” law of 2001. This law is unconstitutional, and could be abrogated, as asked by Liberté pour l’histoire, an association of several hundreds of historians.

Jean-Claude Gaudin (UMP), senator and mayor of Marseille, who supported strongly the penalization proposition in January 2008, i.e. some weeks before the municipal elections, said: “We support the CCAF proposition, but it will fail. A law cannot replace history [...] Moreover, even if the candidacy of Turkey would be refused, Turkey is a great country. We [= France and EU] have particular ties and agreements with Turkey.”

The phrase "While in some countries such as France, it is a criminal offense to deny the Armenian genocide, successive Turkish governments refuse to acknowledge it." is not a comment nor a statement but a false information.

No law in France deals with this matter.

The text adopted by the Senate and the Parliament in France is just a text "recognizing the Armenian genocide" with no binding effect nor criminal consequence.

I just don't understand why we cannot admit that the truth we think we know may not be the truth and we'd better leave the matters to an international tribune or a commission.

What have we got to lose other than learning the real truth, after all?

I am simply appalled by the lack of integrity people have.

I m just surprised why some people cant see the facts clear enough. In 1915, Ottoman empire was in a big Collapse. The community was in poverty, and there was no strong authority, education and health. The nation was so tired from the wars of many years. Because in last ten years before the First world war Italy started to become an imperialist and was looking for lands to occupy.

On the other hand Balkan nations started to fight Turkish soldiers. Turkish nation was very tired. On the other hand Russia started to come into Anatolia. Arabs wanted independence and started to kill people in poverty. Also community was far from education and well-educated people dying in the wars.

Furthermore, Turkish authorities were looking up the English Nation. So, all ethnic groups (especially Kurds and Armenians) which were encouraging by England to rebel, started to kill their neighbors.

They started to make groups with guns, which were supported by foreign powers.

Then Ottoman Empire wanted them to stop this kind of actions. Some of them continued rising violence. Than they were decided to be forced to move. Because it was very hard to deal with them, while country's 4 sides surrounded by imperialist powers. (for petrol, land, market).

On their way some of them died from cold and hungriness; while some of them killed by Kurdish groups who wants their food or to rape their woman. some of them killed by Kurdish army fugitives which don't want to fight for Turkish people. some of them were killed by some cruel Turkish commanders didn't listen central management. some of them died in interior fights.

In the first World War, the killing powers now questioning why Armenians died?

Yeah good question. i answer you. because of your insatiable imperialist desires, which moves innocent nations from their home. Nowadays France is questioning the Armenian genocide (so-called)but they don't see their crimes when they entered Anatolia. And ;England doesn't see that for their desires they collected many innocent ANZACS from Australia. They didn't even know where they were going and against whom they were going to fight. did you calculate how many people did you kill? first calculate than question the nation who were inevitable. You had made many secret agreements to share Anatolian and southern petrol areas. You England, aren't you a partner of U.S.A in Iraq, to make real your dreams of centuries? And now just a few years ago U.S.A killed many innocent people. Israel killed many civillians. Who said to Stop???

What do you care? Humanity or hegemony? Please be clear and honest. I'm very surprised of the people of now? What happened to you?

After the first world war, Turkish government, made good relations with all the countries even the ones who attempted to occupy. Look at the letters of people form many nations which congratulate Atatürk for his contribution to World Peace.

Even after a year later, he started to say ‘Peace at home, peace on the world’. And Turkey still is a power in the region which only saves the rights of aggrieved ones.

Although Turkish Prime Minister invited them to open historical sources all over the world to scotch this subjects; they don't walk up to his call. Because if this subject is finished they wont have any instrument in their hands.

The thing I m very surprised is also why they never mention about “Hocali Genocide” in which they raided an Azerbaijani village and killed all of them just 15 years ago? And why don't you talk about people who died in Bosnia?

Do you prefer to mention the ones which were done for fun, or the ones which occurred in very hard times of a nation?

Also I m so sorry about Turkish youth, although they have a right to object to. They don't speak English well enough to show the world. But most Armenians live in U.S.A and raise their voices.

I wish peace to all World With All Respects.
