3732) Stop Terrorist Parole: Deny Parole to Armenian Terrorist Hampig "Harry" Sassounian

How Genocide Allegation Lead to Terrorism on American Soil - (Rachel Maddow MSNBC)

On December 27, 2019, two commissioners of the California Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) granted provisional parole to Armenian Justice Commandos terrorist, Hampig Sassounian. In 2003, after serving 25 years of his life sentence for the 1982 assassination of the Turkish Consul General in Los Angeles, Sassounian became eligible to apply for early release, which he has insistently done in six prior parole hearings. His efforts to escape full accountability have failed, thanks to the good advocacy of the Turkish American community.

Only once before, on December 14, 2016, had Sassounian similarly been granted provisional parole. Thankfully, on May 12, 2017, former California Governor Jerry Brown properly overturned BPH's misguided decision and stopped the release of Sassounian.

Similarly, California’s new governor, Honorable Gavin Newsom, will soon review Sassounian’s parole file and the December 27, 2019, decision of the BPH.

Please urge Governor Newsom to deny parole to Sassounian. Please choose and send the email letter of your preference from the options below:

Crime History and Parole Plan

[In 1982, Hampig Sassounian assassinated Turkish Consul General Kemal Arikan at a busy intersection in Los Angeles. According to the FBI, Sassounian and his two partners-in-crime were members of the Justice Commandos (JCAG), based in Armenia and Lebanon. JCAG is the militant wing of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) nationalist political organization. The second gunman, Koko Saliba, evaded the authorities and fled to Lebanon, while the third who helped as a spotter is at large.

Armenian terrorism claimed the lives of 77 people, 44 of them Turkish diplomats, four of whom were assassinated on American soil. Modern Armenian terrorism started in California. Turkish Consul General Arikan was the third diplomat to be assassinated in California. In over 250 bomb and gun attacks, Armenian terrorism injured more than 700 innocent people, including 25 Americans (7 of them in a car bomb in New York City). Importantly, in a major assault on free speech, Armenian terrorism targeted American professors and teachers who disagreed with the Armenian allegation of genocide. Indeed, Sassounian assassinated Consul General Arikan solely because he was a Turkish diplomat who was a persuasive advocate of free speech and dialogue on the matter of the Ottoman - Armenian conflict (1885-1919).

Sassounian shows no remorse for his acts of terrorism. He continues to advocate armed struggle and sees his future in the Armenian military, as declared in his interview in the Armenian militia magazine, Hay Zinvor.

As a part of his BPH reentry plan to free society, Sassounian has submitted an offer of employment from the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. His proposed future draws an eerie similarity to that of another California Armenian terrorist who assassinated Turkish diplomats in Europe, Monte Melkonian. Upon his release from prison in France, Melkonian returned to Armenia and engaged in terrorism in western Azerbaijan, where he was killed. In his name, Armenia created the Monte Melkonian Military Academy of the Ministry of Defense.

Convicted terrorists continue to be heroes in the Armenian state, and Sassounian is no exception.]
