They had three more bombs ready to explode at the Kursk station (the tragedy was prevented by chance) and enough parts spare parts and explosives to make 17 additional bombs, i.e. 23 (!) “Infernal machines” in all. They have deliberately synchronized their crimes with the school holidays (when children from all parts of the country come to to see the New Year tree in the Kremlin) in the hope of causing damage not only to property, but also psychological.

Just a few years earlier, thousands of demonstrators had marched under the banner of the group formed around this leaf. But since the attack d'Orly [chronology error: the decline of Mr. Toranian's group was gradual and the attack at Orly was none the less only one stage among others] , the group had lost members, even if it had tried to pay the lawyers for Monte and other activists arrested. Now, the crates were empty , and Hagopian's death finally provided the excuse to stop publishing the newspaper. »

History never repeats itself exactly, but the element of continuity between the collapse of the Armenian Republic (at that time ruled by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, ARF) in front of the Kemalist army and the ongoing debacle of the regime led by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in front of the Azerbaijani armed forces, are striking.

In both cases, all the proposals of peace and compromises had been rejected by the cabinets in power in Yerevan, the main difference being that in 1920, the war erupted after less than one year of refusals and in 2020 after twenty-six years. 3740) Patrick Devedjian: A Neo-Fascist Who Was A Life-Long Supporter Of Terrorism

Patrick Devedjian, born in 1944, passed away on 29 March 2020 due to COVID-19. It is not in the habit of AVİM to rejoice of the death of anybody. However, death does not exonerate a person of Devedjian’s disturbing past.

Expressing far rightist ideas as early as high school, Patrick Devedjian was a co-founder of the neo-Fascist organization Occident in 1964. Occident is known, to this day, for its physical clashes with left-wing students and was eventually banned in 1968. Devedjian himself was sentenced in 1965 for illegal possession of a gun and for having stolen a car.[1] In January 1967, he participated in an extremely violent attack on the campus of Rouen University and he was, as a result, sentenced again, together with other members of Occident. Wrongly considered an informant of the police, he was tortured by several of his comrades after the raid and escaped, completely naked, by jumping from the window to the street, where he was arrested.[2] . . .

This is a response to his last defense of the testimony of Sarkis Torossian and his more recent discovery of a document supposedly proving the Ottoman government's genocidal intentions

A sociologist dealing with historical issues, particularly Ottoman Armenians, Taner Akçam has faced increasing criticism during the past decade. He never answered the critiques, including mine in Daily Sabah on March 25, 2015 of his use of Ottoman documents, such as the telegram sent by Interior Minister Talaat Pasha on Aug. 29, 1915, a document forbidding violence against Armenians and yet presented by Akçam as excellent evidence of genocidal intent against them. . . .

Abstract: This paper studies three aspects of the Turkish-Armenian conflict. First of all, contrary to what the main Armenian and proArmenian affirm, there were hundreds of thousands, likely 500,000 Armenians, who were exempted of relocation, particularly in Istanbul, Western and Central Anatolia as well as in the Arab provinces. Then, the policy of the Ottoman government vis-à-vis the Armenian exiles was a protective ones, even if this protection failed in a considerable number of cases. The orders from Istanbul are clear. In particular, it is false to assert that the Ottoman government did not provide food and opposed the foreign relief. 3540) Missed Occasion: Successes Of The Hamidian Police Against The Armenian Revolutionaries, 1905-1908

Abstract: During the last years of Abdülhamit’s era, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation faced huge difficulties, both in the Ottoman Empire and Russia. After years of failed attempt to provoke a foreign intervention through terrorism and, above all, rebellions (1896-1904), the ARF tried to obtain similar results through terrorism alone, in Istanbul and Izmir. In 1905, the Dashnaks tried to kill the Sultan, but failed twice, and their main leader was even killed by his own bomb, during the preparation of the first attempt. Partially as a result of the second failure, the Ottoman police discovered a plot to devastate Izmir, as well as the Izmir-Aydin and Izmir-Usak railways. 3488) Mr Nalbandian Did Not Tell the Truth

The op-ed published in Le Figaro by E. Nalbandian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, and a longer version put on his Facebook page,[i] do not help at all the reconciliation between Armenia and Turkey. On the contrary, it undermines this idea. By every aspect, this text is a repetition of classical, inaccurate assertions of anti-Turkish propaganda. Having answered the French version in French, I will now be answering the full version in English.

In Mr. Nalbandian’s op-ed, even the cliché of the “Ottoman night” is not spared to the reader:

“Like other empires, the Ottoman Empire was built upon and forcefully sustained through suppression of the basic rights and freedoms of many of its citizens.”

In fact, the Ottoman Empire was based on the millet system, which gave to the non-Muslims communities, especially the Greeks, the Armenians and the Jews, an autonomy that did not exist in Russia, for example. During the 19th century, the millet system was reformed, becoming more liberal and closer to a democracy. From 1839 to 1856, the Tanzimat (“reforms,” “reorganizations”) abolished the civil inequalities between Muslims and non-Muslims.

On June 15, 1867, Prince Migidirç Dadian, an Armenian aristocrat who lived outside the Ottoman Empire, published a long article (reprinted later as a booklet) in the Revue des deux mondes (Paris), praising the Ottoman reforms and describing the situation of the Ottoman Armenians as satisfactory. Even after Abdülhamit II (1876-1909) had suspended the Ottoman Constitution in 1878, he left untouched the Constitutions of the non-Muslims millets, their schools, their churches or synagogues. In a detailed study, the Armenian scholar Mesrob K. Krikorian concluded that, relative to the population, the Armenians were the most represented ethnic group in the local Ottoman administration of eastern Anatolia, from 1860s to 1900s.[ii] . . . . .

Sean McMeekin, “The Russian Origins of the First World War,” Cambridge (Massachusetts)-Londres, Harvard University Press, 2011: not perfect, but quite interesting by many aspects.

Pp. 272-273, n. 3: “More representative of the general Armenian line today are the books of Vahakn Dadrian and (with some exceptions) Richard Hovannisian. In ‘The History Armenian Genocide’ (orig. 1995; six editions so far, and counting) Dadrian devotes all of six pages of Russia’s role in ‘the Armenian disaster’—and these cover the pre-World War I period exclusively. Hovannisian in ‘The Armenian Question in the Ottoman Empire,’ his principal article in the volume he edited recently on ‘The Armenian People from Ancient to Modern Times’ (2004), does provide a fairly extensive discussion of Russia’s Armenian policy—but again, only in the period preceding the First World War. It is not that Hovannisian does not know about the Russian angle in World War I—in fact he covered this subject rather extensively forty years ago in ‘The Allies and Armenia, 1915-18’ (1968). Rather, he seems to have let it all slip down the memory hole in his later works, after becoming like an official spokesman for the Armenian cause in American academe.” . . .

3469) Facing Liberty: Victory of Rational Argumentation & Its Consequences by Maxime Gauin

Abstract: The ECHR’s Perincek v. Switzerland verdict is understandable to its full extent only by considering the previous legal cases involving allegations of genocide. When the Armenian side can present its allegations freely and without counter-argument, it is generally able to obtain victories. On the other hand, the confrontation of arguments for and against the “Armenian genocide” label leads to disastrous results for the supporters of Armenian terrorism. Moreover, the decisions of the European Union’s Court of Justice (2003-2004) rejecting the legal value of non-binding resolutions, and of the French Constitutional Council against the Boyer bill have paved the way for the ECHR’s verdict. This decision is a major victory both for freedom of speech, but also for the recognition of the scholarly debate on the Armenian question. This decision should be used not only as an argument in exchange of ideas at every level, but also as an additional legal basis for defamation cases against Armenian nationalists who attempt to portray their opponents as being no better than Holocaust-deniers.
